On May 20, 2022, the European Commission published on its official website a proposal procedure for the restricted substances of the RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU), which plans to add medium-chained chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBP-A) to the list of restricted substances of the RoHS Directive. By then, the number of EU RoHS restricted substances will increase to 12. According to the program, the adoption date is expected to be the fourth quarter of 2022, and the final control requirements are subject to the final resolution of the European Commission.

In March 2021, the EU RoHS Assessment Authority published the final assessment report of the RoHS Consultation Project Pack 15, recommending the addition of medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBP-A) to the control:

MCCPs (containing straight or branched chain chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain lengths of C14-C17) have a recommended control limit of 0.1 wt%.

The proposed control limit for TBBP-A is 0.1 wt%.

For MCCPs and TBBP-A two substances, once added to the control, will certainly have a significant impact on electrical and electronic related enterprises.
